My Schedule at MarsCon 2014

('MarsCon 2014: Time is the Key'. Mar. 7-9. $25-65. DoubleTree by Hilton, 7800 Normandale Boulevard, Bloomington, www.marscon.org)

I didn't put in for a signing or a reading this year, but I will be in the Rockstar Storytellers show. So, that counts as something of a reading. If you need something signed, just shove it in front of me along with a pen and I'll get that done for you. Other than that, though, let's just hang out and talk fandom all weekend.

Is Short the Way to Go?
Exec Lounge (Krushenko’s) — Friday 04:00 pm

Short stories (and novellas and novelettes) were once said to be the way to break into publishing. Are they still? Are people still reading anthologies and magazines? Are more people finding short stories via Amazon?

With: Esther Friesner, Kathryn Sullivan, mod.; Rob Callahan, Haddayr Copley-Woods, Stryder Dancewolffe

The Press vs. Science
Atrium 2 (Re(a)d Mars) — Saturday 01:00 pm

What are some of the greatest howlers in science coverage? What’s the most common kind of reportorial error? What happens when scientists try to write their own press releases? What happens when institutional PR departments do it?

With: Rob Callahan, mod.; Dr. Tom Gardner, Naomi Kritzer, G. David Nordley

Doctor Who
Atrium 3 (Free Mars) — Saturday 02:00 pm

Catch up with the greatest time traveler ever. 50 years and still going strong.

With: Dave Duca, Mike Glielmi, Tony Artym, Elizabeth Erickson, Romeo Azar, Rob Callahan

Games Against Nature, or Technology
Atrium 2 (Re(a)d Mars) — Sunday 11:00 am

Does successful fiction have to conflict with sentient antagonists? What are examples of stories everyone loves, fact or fiction, with no villains. Is interpersonal conflict overrated as a source of drama?

With: Bridget Landry, G. David Nordley, mod.; Rob Callahan, Ozgur K. Sahin

Fixing the Problem of Sexism in Comics & Related Media
Atrium 2 (Re(a)d Mars) — Sunday 02:00 pm

However intentional it may or may not be, sexism remains a larege problem in comics and their related media (cartoons, etc.). Is this a problem strictly in the realm, or a reflection of a wider societal view?

With: Cynthia Booth, mod.; Rob Callahan
